THEORY LESSON

Music theory is incorporated within your lesson according to what instrument you choose.

Lesson are based on the curriculums prescribed by Trinity Guildhall, A.B.R.S.M (Associated Board of The Royal Schools of Music) and other classical and jazz instructional methodologies.

Just like grammar in English. Music in theory is the study of the formal rules of a language, specifically the language of musical composition.

Lessons in the following area of music theory are offered:

  • Rudiments – sight reading, notation, dynamic markers, sharp/flat keysignatures, major and minor scales, major and minor chords, intervals, dictation, rhythm
  • Tonal Harmony – counterpoint, SATB, voice leading, figured bass, diatonic harmony, chromatic harmony, cadences, modulation, form, composition
